| The Legend of Pagaruyung By: Jesica Dwi Aine Once upon a time in Batusangkar (West Sumatra), there lived a little boy. His name is Uyung. He lived with his parents. Many years had passed. Uyung grew up to be a handsome and smart boy, but his behavior was not as good as his face. Because he had no brothers and no sisters, his parents always tried to spoil him, so he always got everything that he wanted. As the time went by by, Uyung’s behavior became worse. His parents couldn’t stand it anymore. They were really respectful toward the people in their village. Finally, they caught Uyung and lock him up in the house that was surrounded by a fence. Uyung tried to go out from there, but he couldn’t. So, he spent the rest of his life in that place. Now, people in West Sumatra named that place as “Pagaruyung”. Pagar is same as fence in English, and Uyung is the name of that boy. So, it means a place where Uyung was locked up by his parents. Lembah Anai Waterfall By : Hamzah Haekal Once upon a time, in Lembah Anai, West Sumatra, lived a big monster. This monster always ate people that lived near this valley. People lived near this valley always felt afraid. After several time, there was one man wanted to help these people, by killing the monster. This man was strong and kind. All people hoped this man could defeat tha monster. So, the man went to the monster. After yhe man reached the monster, the man fought fiercely with the monster. Al last, the man won the battle and the monster and the monster fall to the valley wall. The upper valley wall destroyed and released water. Until now this water still released and became a beautiful waterfall, called Lembah Anai Waterfall. Legend By : Puti Fardhiba Rizki Putri Have you ever heard about Jam Gadang? Or have you visited this tourism place which located in Bukittinggi? Don’t you see there is something strange in the four letter in that watch? If we look carefully, the four letter is unusual. Usually the four letter in Romance style is “IV” but in the clock is “IIII”. Based on the story, when the big clock was built, the number of society, who lived around the location, is one hundred and eleven (1111). And beside that, the big clock was built in one hundred and eleven days or about 3 years. |

| Legend The Crying Stone By : Asra Tiara Long-long ago , in west Sumatera, there was a girl who lived with her mother. There were very poor. The girl was a naughty girl. When she grew up , she became a very spoiled girl. One day, she asked her mother for some golds. Of course, her mother couldn’t. and the spoiled girl became very disappointed. Then, they went to a market. On the way, the spoiled girl met her friend. And her friend said to the spoiled girl, “Who is she? I mean the old woman beside you?”. And the spoiled girl answered, “She is my maid.” Then, the naughty girl’s mother was very sad and disappointed. On their way home, the spoiled girl insulted her mother. And her mother became very angry and after that she cursed her daughter. Next, the girl became a stone. The stone called “Crying Stone” because until now the stone always produce water. LEGEND By: Yola Ikki Fish as Big as Horse Once upon a time, there was a child who lived near a river in Solok. I the river, there were many big fish. The child’s parents as fa fisherman. The child name was Fiko. Fiko like fish very much than another food. Since he was born until he became a teenager ne just ate fish, fish, and fish. One day, he wanted to celebrate his seventeen birthday at home, and he invited all of his friend to attend his party. He plained to make FISH PARTY. So, the food in his birthday must fish. But one day before the day, fish stock was empty. He was panic. So, he went to the river and looked for the fish. He swam. Suddenly, he felt weird with around of his body. Then, his skin became like fish skin. Next, all of his body became like a fish, a big fish, a fish as big as horse, and no one know that, included his parents. Finally, he lived in water ever after. History of ‘Padang Panjang’ By :Alia Nessa Rubima Long time ago, there was a place in West Sumatra named ‘Balai nan Lamo’. In this area there are 2 groups that fight against each other. They have different arguments about the rules of wedding. “Dad, I want to marry with Puti Kambang Bungo,” asked a man named Bujang Sati. “You can’t,” said his father angrily. “But why? I love her, and she loves me,” answered Bujang Sati. “You have the same clan with her, and it can’t be tolerated in our rules of wedding. If the man and woman have the same clan, the wedding is illegal. Do you understand?” “But…,” “No More But!! This is our culture!” said his father, Datuak Bandaro Kuniang madly. Since his father got angry with him, Bujang Sati felt desperate. He even felt life was nothing. Because of that, he masses suicide. That accident made one of the groups in Balai Nan Lamo got angry. They fought against Datuak Bandaro Kuniang, Bujang Sati’s father. They said,” The only basic of wedding is mutual love between the boy and the girl. Even they have the same clan, they still can do wedding.” This made civil war between two groups in Balai Nan Lamo. Even they made bloody victims. The civil war continued until the next two months. Until one day, there was a man that had a long sword came into Balai Nan Lamo. He understood that the situation was very worse. “What happen to this village?” asked him to one of the villagers. Then, the villager told him the truth. The man asked again,” May I know where Datuak Bandaro Kuniang is?” “Yes, of course,” So, the villager told him where Datuak Bandaro Kuniang is. Then, the ‘long-sword’ man got into the room. Looked like, he had a long discussion with Datuak Bandaro Kuniang, and some of the challenger. They had one decision. The next day, Datuak Bandaro Kuniang asked all people to do gathering in Balai Nan Lamo. He then shouted, “All villagers! We have done one mistake. We made civil war just because the different argument between us. We have one decision now. ‘The wedding must be based on our old-culture law. Or, the clan between the boy and the girl must be different. So, we have to thank the man who has the long-sword. He has helped us,” “Where is he?” asked the villagers. Without the acknowledgement of all villagers, the man who had the long-sword has gone. But, all the villagers thank him because of his help. To remind the villagers about him, they renamed the village into “Padang Panjang”. Which is the translation of “Long-Sword” into Minang Kabau language. |

| Myth By : jesica Dwi aine Long time ago in Bukittinggi (West Sumatra), there was a little girl. Her name is Upik. Her father has passed away a few months ago. So, she only lived with her mother. Her mother very often got angry with everyone, moreover since her husband passed away. One day, Upik was play with the umbrella inside her house. Unfortunately, she broke her mother favorite vase. At the moment, her mother was just come home from her job. She was really angry, and she shouted loudly to her daughter. Upik was very startled like she just heard the thunder. Since that accident, adult people in West Sumatra always say like this to their children: “Don’t play with an umbrella inside the house or you will struck by lightning”. MYTH FORBIDDEN FISH BY: Hamzah Haekal One day, there were two brotherhood who lived near The Pure River. They both were insubordinate children. They both always didn’t follow their mother’s words. One time they both wanted to swim in the pure river. And they mother forbode them to swim. Because, the people told were forbidden to swim in the that river. But, they both didn’t hear to what their mother told. So, the mother was sad because the children disobeyed. And the mother cursed them , and they both were become fish At night, the mother was looking for her children. But the mother didn’t find them. Because they had changed into fish. Since that, fish in the pure river was forbidden to eat. Because the fish in the river was originated from human. Myth By: Rizki Puti Are you a girl? If you are a girl, have you heard this myth? Has your mother told you that girl should not watching TV alone especially at midnight? Ad, do you know why? Long time ago, there was a girl, a rich girl, watched TV alone at midnight. Although her parents had asked her to go to sleep she still watched at night long. In the morning, her parents couldn’t find her anywhere. Some people said that she was brought y Upiak Banuan, a kind of ghost in West Sumatra. Myth Palasik By : Tiara Asra Once upon a time, there was a very horrible spirit lived in a village. The spirit always ate baby’s hair in that village. Many babies lived not long after they borned. All parents in the village was very sad. They worried about her babies. One day, an oracle came to the village to help their trouble. Oracle said to all villager to give her babies the necklace that made from garlic. Until now, people still believe that garlic necklace can protect her babies from “Palasik”. Myth Banyan Tree By: Ikki Yola Long time ago, there was a girl who after played under the Banyan tree. She always there whenever she felt any feel, such as happiness, sadness, disappointment, angry or whatever like that. She was alone without her parents ang brother or sister. Since she was born, she never felt the harmony of family. One day, when she was on the way to Banyan tree, suddenly some naughty children stopped her step. They underestimated her, and pull her hair until she screamed. Then, one of the naughty children took rope and tied her hands and legs. After that, they left her alone in lying face down ward. Next, the tractor hit her and she flew up to the peak of banyan tree. And she became death. So, her desperate roamed all over that banyan tree, and disturb the people. MYTH Stairway to Heaven Created by: Alia Nessa Rubima Have you ever seen the rainbow? Seven beautiful colors which is appeared if the sunlight biased the rain? Based on the belief of old man, if the rainbow appeared when someone that has been known as kind-hearted died, then god will pick him/her up into the heaven by making the way to heaven. The history of this myth came from a kingdom in West Sumatra. The common people of the kingdom felt the lack of water because of the over-time summer. In another place, the king of the kingdom has seven beautiful daughters. Because of the lack of the water that they face in their area, those seven daughters wanted to give themselves to heaven, to be changed into rain. At the beginning, the king of the kingdom doesn’t agree with their decision. But in the end, they finally gave themselves to heaven, and in a sudden… appeared seven beautiful colors with half-circle form. It called rainbow. Since then, people believed that if a rainbow appeared when someone who is kind-hearted died, god would make the stairway of heaven for him/her. |
| Dheo Putrangga Long time ago, some months after world was II in Andaleh Town lived a romantic couple. Ujang Kapau and Upik Midun. They had married for 5 years. But, they didn’t have child, Ujang Kapau was patriot. In the 5th years Ujang Kapau was asked to Sitinjau Lauik by Comandan. He was akes witen his wife was pregnant. In Sitinjau Lauik he was Comanded to defence the are from conolializer. When he fought, he killed the leader of colonializer, Tiara. At the same time, Andaleh Town would be industrial area. It made the people of Andaleh Town moved to Sitinjau Lauik. In Sitinjau Lauik, Upik Midun met Ujang Kapau who had married with Tiara. The wife felt hurt, and she prayed to god to gave clues to her husband. The god answered her pray. It made her husband got very bad sick. Saw that, Tiara felt dislike her husband and she left Ujang Kapau. Tiara married again with the sich man. Finally, Upik Midun felt pity saw that. And she wanted to help and care her husband. Because of that Upik Midun apologize to Upik Midun, he said “I âm sorry, I hope you for give me about all my mistakes. Upik Midun said “of course honey”, I must stick with you foreverâ. Heard that, Ujang Kapau felt very happy. And after that they lived happy forever. Moral message : You must faithful with your couple |
| MYTH BY: SONIA CS SUTAN MUDO There was a man named SUTAN MUDO. He was a very handsome man. There were so many girls adored at him so much. He knew that he had that charisma. So he played up with those girls. He married one girl and then the second, and then until third. But they didn’t even know that their husband wasn’t their own. They also did’t know each other. SUTAN MUDO took turns in visiting each off his wives house. Because of his gorgeous face, he became a very arrogant person. He didn’t want to worn for feeding his families. He’d rather to selling his wives jewelries every time they had no money. He also got so many kids from their. One day when the kids first time entered elementary school. They went to the same school, because there was only one elementary in their village they were accompanied by their mother who didn’t realize the situation between them. Then, the teacher asked them to tell her a story about their father. The kid from the 1st wife, told that he had a father name SUTAN MUDO. He was very lazy and he was rarely at home. The 2nd kid also told the same story and so on until the 3rd kid. Those mothers became confuse because their children told the same story. They decided to go and find sutan mudo somewhere. Sutan Mudo was caught in the 3rd wife’s house. They were so jealous and frustrated because of the fact that it was true, they had the same Husband! The 1st wife was yelling and yelling, the 2nd wife was crying and crying. And he second wife was cursing, “oh, how dare you!! Monkey” And then that was the myth about why there’s only one male monkey which had so many females and kids in lembah anai. Moral Message : Avoid polygamy marriage without permission from the wives! MYTH BY: ESI MIRAYULIRIN MYTH OF PREGNANT Long time ago, there is a myth about pregnant in West Sumatra . In tradition of West Sumatra , a pregnant woman have same rules that must BE obeyed . Old people in West Sumatra say that a pregnant woman must keep their behavior because the behavior of a pregnant woman can influence their child behavior, for example she doesn’t say the bad words like “How ugly the child is!” “How stupid the child is!”How naughty the children are!”, and etc. If she doesn’t obey the rules, the child will grow up like what a pregnant woman says, but it is not just a myth. The reality, the myth happen in a village call Pauh Kamba. One day in the morning, a pregnant woman goes to the market. When she arrive in the market, she saw a naughty child then she says to her husband.”Look at the child, he is very naughty”. In the road, she saw a dirty and ugly child, then she says “How poor the child is! He is very dirty and ugly, I am sure that our child doesn’t like that 3 months later, the woman has baby, the family look very happy, when their child is 3 years old, she grow up became naughty, dirty, and ugly child. Then she look very un happy, she remember what did she say when she was pregnant and she aware that she make a mistake. Now, she doesn’t do anything, she hopes when she pregnant again she can keep her words and her behavior. So, pass through the story we get lesson. When we pregnant we must keep our behavior because of its influence to our child.  |
| Albeno Saleh Ahmad XII IPA 4  SINGKARAK LAKE Long time ago in West Sumatra , there lived a small family. Father, mother and their son. They lived in ugly house and dirty. When their son have grown up, he went to mountain to get some woods to cook. He went to the mountain with his friends. His friend’s name is a Aminah. After take the woods. He went to play with friends arrived the mountain. He did that every day. One day when they went to the mountain the girl fall down into valley. The boy scored and he went down to help the girl. But unfortunately event happened the girl dead. The girls family got angry and hate the boy. The boy stress the went to the mountain and cried a lot. Because his cry the ear quake happened and the mountain changed to big lake. People said the “ Singkarak Lake †because the boy name is Singkarak.  Sarah Dewi Mustika XII IPA 4 TIMUN MAS Once upon a time there was widow in a small village. She lived alone in a small house. Every day she always prayed to God to get baby. One day Green Giant (Buto Ijo) come to her house. He said to the widow “If you want to get a baby, you have to plant the cucumber seedsâ€. But when she became adolescence I will pick up herâ€. And the widow did that. When the cucumber became bigger and bigger, the widow decided to open the cucumber. When she opened the cucumber, she was very amaze. Because there was a baby in the cucumber. And she gave her name Timun Mas. One day Timun mas went to the forest to take the wood. During her road, she meet with Buto Ijo. She ran away, and Buto Ijo followed her. She known that Buto Ino wanted to eat her. When she ran away she meet with an angel, and the angle give him wood, and salt. The angle asked her to throw the wood, and she did it. Suddenly the wood changed into the forest. Buto Ijo couldn’t see the right way. And finally Timun Mas threw the salt and it changed into the sea. Finally the Giant was die. Timun Mas and her mother lived happily over after. ALVIN ANDHIKA Z XII IPA 4 Gold Shine Lake One upon a time, in South Sulaweu , there was a kingdom. The king was Prabu Sanjaya and his wife was Sri Lastri. Prabu was a good and kind king, so, the people lived in prosperous without poverey. Never the less, Prabu and his wife hadn’t got any children. People asked them to adopt a child. But they didn’t want. They wanted to have their own child. To got a child, Prabu prayed every day in a forest near the castle. One year later, Sri got pregnant. Prabu, Sri and all the people were very happy. Nine months later, they got a son. Prabu wanted his son to be the next king of the kingdom. Prabu named him Kamandaka. The baby grew to a handsome man. In his 21st birthday, Prabu declared that his son will be the next king. But, his son didn’t want to be the next king. He couldn’t lead the kingdom. He wanted to as ordinary people. When Prabu gave the gold crown to his son, Kamandaka threw a wan the crown. Then, all the people in the kingdom cried, it also rained at that time. Soon, the water became a lake. And the lake became shiny. The shine was from the gold crown in the lake. People named his lake “Gold Shine Likeâ€. LEGEND BY : FERAGINDPUTR LUSSY STOYA LAKE MANINJAU In the past, there was a family in West Sumatra . This family have 10 children. They last children is a girl, when the girls grew up she has a boy friend but her family didn’t agree with her boy friend and then her brother accused his sister to did adultery. She heard that her brother talked like that she felt sad and she promisedâ. “If I do adultery, this place will be a bad smell but if I don’t this place will be a lake and who that people who had been betrayed will be a fishâ€. After she talked the girl and her boy friend jumped down from the high mountain, did then the mountain exploded and brought out much water and her brother becomed a fish. This place name Lake Maninjau . ANDRE GRIVANZY XII IPA 4 Once upon a time, lived a mother with her two children. A boy was named Buyung and the girl was Upik. Their father has passed away two years ago. Buyung and Upik obeyed their mother, that why she love them. One day, their mother had to go to market. The mother asked them not to go any where until she went home. They said “Yes, Mami” and then their mother went to a market. Staying 1 hour at home, they felt bored. Buyung said, “Upik, how about we go to a river and swim there”But, Buyung kept persuading his sister to disobey the rule. “Oh, come on, just one time. Our mother wonna be angry to us”. Upik became agree and then they go to a river. Arriving there, they swam happily. They have swim for 1 hour and they felt the change of their body with out realizing it, they have changed become a fish!! In fact, it is the curse because they are not obey to his mother. ILHAM KAMIL XII A 4 A VATAR The legend of Aang Once upon the time, there was one people have four elemen in their body. He can control earth, wind, fire, and water element in the earth. But, somebody one gone. The people who can control fire element make destruction in the world. They dertray all of the people who can control earth, wind, and water. One day, two brother Katara and Kitara find the people or one of the people who can control coind elements. According the destiny. This man was regeneration of AVATAR the name is Aang. Aang follow Katara and Kitara to save their village and the world from the fire dinarty and then, their got many problem during the jurney. Aang though by Kitara to control water elements and thagh by Prince of fine to control fine elements and king of eart to control earth elements. After Aang could teach a element, he meet AVATAR Rogue. The first AVATAR who can control 4 elements. Avatar Rogue say, that Aang can defeat king of fine and balance earth normally. Aang and king of fine was fight, and Aang won the fighting and then Aang take over earth and make it normally again. |
